Hi everyone.

I'm planning on submitting my application before the month ends, but I'm getting increasingly discouraged as I look through the posts here. I feel like I have a reallllllyyyy low chance of getting just an interview this cycle. I have ~3.3 oGPA & sGPA, 21TS/22AA w/a lousy 17QR. I have no research experience or anything that really makes me stand out other than ~1400 hrs of community service & ~170 hrs of shadowing.

Is it even worth applying?? Should I go back to school and take some classes to boost my low GPA? Also, if I do have a chance, what schools would you recommend? I'm a WA resident (if that helps). Please be blunt with me..!

Those stats are fine. Relax and send it in.

You are both right and wrong. You will have low chances at the top tier schools, aka Ivy leagues ucla stonybrook etc.

But your chances are good for every other school.

I'm waiting for someone to post " You need 10,000 volunteer hours and a 27AA, Don't apply until you have that." lol

SDN is full of overachievers. 😛 Your GPA is a bit low, but with a 22AA, ~1400 hours of community service, and ~170 hours of shadowing, there's no reason for you to wait until the next cycle.

Definitely apply! Your GPA is only part of the picture, and your other stats show that you are a very good candidate. Don't worry about applying.

Your AA is quite high, if you apply to the right schools you can probably get in. Just apply broadly and early.

Thank you for the encouragement and support everyone..

ALSO..
Which would you say is more important: TS or AA? And is it true that the QR is the least important? And how many schools do people apply to on average? I have about 8 schools on my list. This seems like a very low number. My options seem really limited because of my stats.

The QR section is the least considered out of all the DAT scores. I had a 16 on that part and no one brought it up.

If you look at the admissions statistics of University of Washington School of Medicine , you'll find that your stats are competitive, maybe except for the GPA. Plus they highly favor Washington residents and it is a top 10 school.

except i'm applying to dental not medical school.... haha 🙂 thanks for the input~

I've already sent my AADSAS and finished most of my secondaries. I have very similar stats as yours but I am a nontraditional applicant. Destroy the PS and send those apps early! Good luck.
