I never imagined that I would be posting about my DAT score, but here I am!

Academic Average: 23
Total science: 23
OC 27
GC 22
Bio 22
RC 21
QR 22
PAT 21.

Total actual time studying(cramming): 3 weeks.
I started ACTUALLY studying for my exam right after my college exams were done. I did take the Kaplan course (Waste of money..) and that helped me touch up on the topics during the semester but I didn't actually get to studying til after my exams. I quickly realized that the Kaplan wasn't gunna cut it and read A LOT of posts on SDN about what to study. I studied about 8-10 hours a day.

BIO 22
I used: Feralis Notes, Kaplan Blue Book, 5 Steps to a 5 (AP BIO), DAT Destroyer.
Feralis notes had everything I needed to do well on this exam IMO. Most of the questions were pretty basic and came straight from these notes. There was a question that I know I got wrong because I couldn't remember what his notes said. Otherwise there were 2 questions that weren't discussed much in his notes: ex: Eustachian tube. pretty random. DAT destroyer was really good too, I highly highly recommend. It was easier to remember/understand concepts by actually working out problems and understanding what topics you should review.

GEN CHEM 22
I used: DAT Destroyer, Chad's, Kaplan Blue Book
Gen Chem has always been my weak spot. Chad's was spot on with the content on the exam in my opinion. DAT Destroyer helped lock in certain topics that were on the exam and definitely made the test seem a lot easier after using it! Would highly recommend both. PS. make sure to take notes on Chad's videos.

OCHEM 27
I used: DAT Destroyer, Chad's OUTLINE, Kaplan Blue Book
So first off, I just took both ochem classes this year so this section was still fresh for me. Memorize the EWG and EDG for sure! DAT Destroyer helped a lot, especially looking over his ochem maps and understanding acidity. I didn't watch any of Chad's videos, just downloaded the outline and that was enough for me. Kaplan helped quite a bit too tbh. This part of the exam was pretty straight forward.

Side Note: One question had 2 identical answer choices..wtf?

PAT 21
I used: Crack the PAT, Practice tests
I dont know how I did well in this one. I actually had a panic attack during it because this section was really hard to me. The TFE were hard and there was a keyhole that I swear did not fit any of the answer choices. Angles were like 1-2 degrees apart and there was some pretty hard hole punching questions that looked a lot like the ones in Crack the PAT.
Crack the PAT was pretty similar on all sections to me, but I thought the TFE were definitely harder.

Side Note: Do not use Kaplan for this. Sooooo much easier...

RC 21
I used: Practice tests
Honestly, I thought the RC on the real DAT was a lot easier than Kaplan practice tests. I think it was just because the topics were easier for me to understand. Also, I did not know this prior to the exam but you can highlight! I used this while I read to highlight key points and it made this section a lot more tolerable for me and it took less time because I didn't have to take notes on each paragraph.

QR 22
I used: DAT Destroyer, MATH Destroyer
This section wasn't very different than from the DAT Bootcamp/Kaplan practice QR sections in my opinion. There were no volume questions or ones that required trig identities for me though. The hardest thing for me was finishing on time. I had to rush a lot on questions I wasn't sure about because time was ticking. I recommend getting fast at working out problems in the MATH Destroyer and you'll be good to go!

Also, if you think you're doing bad on a section, don't let it get to you! I did a lot better than I thought in the end 🙂
Special thanks to the SDN community for giving so much advice on what to study and how to prepare. I couldn't have done it without all of you!

Great job!! This post makes me feel better because I'm also studying on a short period of time. For bio did you make any flash cards or study outlines, or just read Feralis?

I made flash cards in the first week. I didn't review them that much, but I think being able to write down the information helped with memorization. You concentrate more on the information when writing it down than when glancing over it so I definitely am happy I did. I went through Feralis notes 3 times and highlighted topics I didn't know very well. Feralis notes are awesome and I'm sure using AP Bio (Cliffs I think?) would help fill in some info!

Nice score, with only 3 weeks of studying! How did you go about using Destroyer?

I worked out a certain amount of questions each day, checking the answers and marking the wrong ones.
The second time around I went through the questions again, mainly focusing on their explanations. I wrote down on paper the topics/concepts/equations from the explanations that I was weak at so I could focus on my weaknesses and remember not to make the same mistake on the test. Making an outline of concepts that I wanted to remmember also helped me not have to go through all 1000 questions again because thats super time consuming when I had only 3 weeks.

Congratulations!! I am taking mine in ten days. So nervous about RC as English is not my first language. I noticed you said you can highlight!!! do you mean you make a permanent yellow highlight that if you click somewhere else on the passage the highlight does disappear?!

I don't really care too much about the DAT score. I just wanted to tell you that I thought you were beautiful. Yes, I'm swooning.

All you need is to meet her during interview session, and maybe she will fall in love with you.
But seriously she's a babe.

Wow!! Fantastic job! You won't have a problem getting in with those scores!!

I am taking mine a few days, how did you do on you bootcamp tests if I may ask?

Could you post your 2009 grades then I can compare and see how similar your actual grades are?
Sooo I totally thought the free online "Sample Test" one was the 2009 one but I guess its the 2007 one? Haha, oops... well if you want to know my scores for that one I got about 4 wrong on Bio, 2 Gen chem, 1 Ochem, 5 Math. I took this maybe a week before.

If you care to know the difference in Kaplan scores...
Kaplan:
BIO OC GC RC QR PAT
19 17 17 22 16 18
18 17 20 23 16 21
20 21 21 19 21 22
(2 days before)

Yeah, I had no idea until I took the 15 minute lesson before the test. I was able to highlight it and it stayed permanent. It was definitely a pleasant surprise...

Your scores are definitely UOP material. Apply for sure!

Haha pretty crappy. I definitely got better at them but never that good. Pretty discouraging at first tbh, especially the Ochem section killed me and that ended up being my strong point on the exam.

That is amazing! I take mine in 10 weeks and I am so beyond nervous. Even signing up for it and picking a date had me panicking and my legs legit got numb and I wanted to vomit but its paid for now yay. Thanks for the info about the highlight tool, I hope to write a post as awesome as yours in 10 weeks ( haha no I won't but I can dream)

may I ask your BC scores? I am taking the DAT in 10 days and just wanted to compare

Yeah, it helped that I just took my Ochem and Microbiology final. I'm also just good at focusing and understanding the material. Ps. I go to a texas college too, just not a longhorn 😉

Honestly, you look just like a girl I met a few years ago at UT. Also a pre-dental student. I was going to ask but didn't want to sound like a creep lol

Congratulations! Your scores are off the charts and you will have no trouble getting interviews and acceptances. Your DAT taking advice is much appreciated by students yet to face the DAT Beast. I have quite a few students taking the DAT in the upcoming weeks and I shared your post with them.

The DAT is a very manageable test if you prepare for it and that you did!

Enjoy your summer, you deserve it!

Nancy

3 weeks, how many hours did you study everyday?
I studied about 8-10 hours mainly. When it got closer to the time I studied from 11:00 am - 12 am with some breaks of course. The day before I went over the things I struggled with the most. I know some people take the day before off and don't study, but I just can't get myself to do that 🙂

Thank you! I'm so glad I had the DAT Destroyer as a resource, it helped me so much. I hope I can help others get the scores they want as well!

congrats on your score!
For bio, did u get any questions on meiosis/mitosis? the number stuff are getting me confused.. wether its 23 chromatids 23 chromosomes 92 chromatids and yada yada.. what were the questions like if u got any on that topic on the actual dat???

This should be a topic you know like the back of your hand. With a bit of studying and memorization, it's actually quite easy. Also, it doesn't matter whether or not she had any questions on that since there's a ridiculously high probability you won't have the same test. Have you gone through bootcamp or destroyer bio? There are a lot of good mitosis/meiosis questions in both of those sources that should teach you all you need to know.
