I think I'm gonna buy all these DAT study books (will cost money but eh) in a few weeks. I'm taking a few summer courses and they'll last until mid-August. My undergraduate school starts Sept 22nd.

So I thought it'd be smart to study from Mid August (August 16th) till September 16th and then take the DAT September 20th or so.

Is this enough time to study? Some people take only 2 wks some people take MONTHS.

What should I do? What would you guys suggest? Thanks,

I don't think so unless you are okay with getting under 20s. You prolly need a bit more time than that

I think it depends on your science background... If you just finished taking your bio, chem, and o chem, and did really well in them I think you should be fine. If your science background isn't so strong you may need more time. If you have a good science background and study efficiently, however, I say go for it.

i think taking the dat that late could limit your chances at a lot of schools. why dont u start now and take it in august?

well how long did you guys study??

i got B's in gchem, and B in orgo1 and C in orgo 2.

i dont know what else to do.

please tell me how YOU did it. even if i start august 16th and end sept 20th. thats a full month! isnt that enough??

Depends on how much time you want to dedicate to studying. If you can study full time everyday 5-6+ hrs maybe? Then I think you'll be more than fine.

Bump.

Oh and also,

I remember seeing a site/pdf file somewhere on the ADA website (most likely) that showed the topics under EACH science section and it was very thorough

For example, it has NMR under Ochem and other subcategories to the science sections.

No offense man, but if you got 2 Bs and a C I'm gonna assume your GPA isnt through the roof so you're really gonna want to nail this test. If you're applying for the next cycle, why not spend more time studying next summer?

well im pretty sure ill do better oin the DAT than in my classes...and next summer is too late to take the DAT>..maybe only if i mess up firs ttime.

I think he said he is applying next cycle.

Taking hte exam next summer is a much smarter approach. I am sure you are taking upper level science classes these next two semester and will give you a deeper understanding of all the material. Study for the DAT hardcore from may -> july. Take it July 1st. Study throughout the year, like once a week spend 3 hours reveiwing old notes. You would still be an early applicant. Cramming for one month is going to show poorly on your exam. I think the majority of people prepare for at least 2 months. And the frist two weeks are just getting your feet wet. So if you were to start studying with your DAT in one month. The first two weeks would be refamiliarizing yourself with old material/ basic concepts. The next two weeks would be left to teach yourself material that your professors never covered but are covererd by the DAT. . . <- that would not be such a great plan.

You are applying next year. take the test next year.

I personally only studied for 2 weeks...like 6-8 hrs a day though...Depends if you learn quickly or take a little more time...I think a month is WELL enough time...By the way, Sept 22! You are crazy lucky! Mine is a month before that! haha!

that was my point. he's saying he doesn't want to take it next year because it's the same year he's applying. but look at all of these people on here who are applying this cycle and taking it within the next few weeks.

Well I always have next summer open if I don't do well on the first try. That's why. Taking it late September would give me 2 months...even 1 month is good enough I think, but it would give me 2 months...study over the summer, and take the exam a few days before I go back to my university.
