Hey all,

I'm as ugly as sin, let's get that out in the open right from the get-go. 😀

For my ERAS picture, what kind did you guys use? Should I get a professional one, or would a professional-looking one taken with my super cool digital camera suffice?

Does a shirt and tie suffice, or do I need the full jacket as well?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Best wishes!

I haven't seen any ERAS pictures with the white coat, so jacket and tie should suffice. Mine was taken with just a digital camera at home. Many of the photos look at least somewhat professional and flattering, but you can just have someone take a picture of you in front of a nice background. Like trees. Or things exploding. Smile. 😀

About you being ugly, well, just make sure it's a little out of focus. Or a lot out of focus. Or just submit a photo of Brad Pitt instead and hope nobody notices that it looks nothing like the guy that shows up for the interview. 😕

We took our yearbook pictures, and the company send one copy to the school to be submitted to ERAS

We had no choice in the matter. Our school sent our yearbook picture to ERAS. I hated mine because I was sick the day they took them but still got my #1.

Programs aren't allowed to look at your picture until they've already decided to invite you for an interview (that's what my program coordinator tells me - if she's incorrect, I apologise). I'd recommend something professional with a shirt and tie (not super expensive - WalMart photos or something like that) as it seems to be what most people use (at least the ones applying to our program this year).

I've been told this too but think it is BS. There were programs downloaded my picture from ERAS and didn't offer me an interview. What I was told by a program secretary is that they can download them but not look at them or such crap. I mean all they have to do is say they are going to offer you an interview and not all interviews are sent by ERAS, so I think they can do what they want and look at your pic whenever. Just one more way the man keeps us down

I took mine in a full jacket and tie. I don't think it is terribly important, however.

Do most people have a jacket on, or does it matter?

Thanks for all previous replies.

At our school, we had a photographer come in and take all of our pictures. They asked us to come in wearing a shirt, tie, and a jacket. We didn't have to pay for them either.

Most programs will use the ERAS photos to make the composite showing their matched class. This photo will follow you for 3-6 years. Take a nice one, professionally, in a jacket and tie.

3-6 years??? damn, that was one horrendous picture of me too. i wasn't having a good day.

Most programs don't look at your picture until after they already invited you to an interview.

So I recommend that you pose naked holding your genitals and grinning broadly.

That way, after they have already invited you, they will be nervously awaiting your arrival.

I should have done my picture THAT way!!! Instead, my school just took our "yearbook" photo and sent it for us. Most guys had ties...some whitecoats. It really doesnt matter.

I would think posing naked and grinning broadly while holding someone else's genitals, would be more disturbing.

Well, it's worked before, it just might work again. Thanks everyone!!

I just went to Kinko's and got a passport photo. I was wearing a tshirt. I don't think it really matters.

I didn't send any pic at all and matched just fine -

I figured I could use all the help I could get because I'm no supermodel. I knew a photographer who cut me a deal because my wife and I had just had some pictures taken with him. I wore a full suit and tie for the professional pics. I matched thank goodness! Who knows what role it played.
