My future 2+4 year

I'm going to go to Youngstowns State University next fall. I'm going to do there 2 year program. Then transfer to a 4 year pharmacy program, but I'm thinking YSU credits are going to be not good enough to get into a really good program. I have Hemophilia so I would like to stay close to home "Youngstown Ohio" for a couple years. Then move out to a school like University of Maryland--Baltimore.

Do you have a question? If this is your plan you need to do really well on your prereq especially for maryland since they are really competitive to get into. Good luck.

It was more of a is this a good idea or bad. I'm thinking it's going to be hard because YSU is such a small school.

Its a lot easier applying into a 6yr program and maintaining a gpa like 2.5 --- you dont have to worry about the hassle of applications - if you have a good high school gpa which is easy to do, you have a good chance of getting into a 6yr program. If you opt for the 2+4 its not as easy in that you have to do really well in those prereq classes - at least a 3.5 to be competitive since you dont have a BA/BS. And you'd have to do well on the pcats--- which is more headache. Since your aim is pharmacy - start volunteering / working in a pharmacy to gain experience and soup up your resume.

If you're worried about the credits transferring --- dont worry - a lot of people take classes at community and were able to transfer to a pharm program easily. They mainly look at your gpa so keep that high. But like I said, if you're thinking of maryland - i know they prefer maryland residents therefore you have to get a really high gpa to be competitive.

If i could do it again - i'd go for the 6yr program. Even if the nearest one is a little far --- the college world isn't that scary. You'll meet people and make a new "family" with your friends... you cant stay in your small town forever =) I went from a small town community of 350 class size to 25000 undergrads and for me, it wasn't a big deal. I made my small group of friends just like hs. I hope this helps 🙂

I really think its a better choice. You wont have to go through the headache of the applications / pcat / interviews (which can be expensive) during your fall semester -- along with finals (ugh) its what i have to go through now and it sucks. And you'll be safer - its a lot easier getting by with a 2.5 than trying to get a 3.5 and above - freshmen year is a hard transition - college is a lot harder than high school. Tell us what you decide later 🙂
