My health insurance premium just went up again. Are the docs getting paid yet?

I have blue cross. i never see the doctor, i never get any meds. i just use it for the 'what if i need hospitalization' scenario.

in one year, my monthly premium went from $42 to $51, and now $54. Again, I'm fully healthy, and never go to the doc.

Are the docs getting paid any extra? or are the insurance companies still laughing all the way to the bank? scrape a lil from the docs, scrape a lil from the customers. BLING BLING:idea:

I'd be pissed if, as a doc, I didn't get an extra share of the pie with all these premium hikes.

The CEO says he needs another $50million mansion, and says we have to pay $3 extra to pay for his ****.

Just wait 'till you have a wife, kids, and a maternity benefit to pay for. My BC/BS just went up from about $340/month to over $350. That's with a $2500 deductable.

It doesn't matter if you never see the doctor. Your premium goes up as you get older, no matter what.

Your car insurance goes down as you get older. So they basically balance each other out.

As you get older, your risk of having a disease increases.

Oh my, I want your insurance. We are paying over $1000 right now for our COBRA, and were paying $750 for our family policy with no maternity benefits, no prescription med benefits and several exclusions!

And, I'll tell you that they don't pay the docs anything extra. When I was an office manager I was constantly on the phone with the ins companies because of their rediculous "Adustments!" How they can discount a $12,000 procedure to $3000 is beyond me. Even worse is their lie about how they obtain their "Usual anc Customary" fee schedule.

I digress... we should all move to Canada and participate in public health.

so essentially, they just want to pay for parts, and rob you of your labor charge.

Check out BC/BS, as it may actually be cheaper than COBRA 😉

If you want to pay out in accordance with your expenditures, there is a special plan for that. We call it being uninsured. 😉

COBRA is horrible if you are young. They just extend your previous employer's group coverage. Group coverage premium = Average premium of likely insured (and usually a bit higher, just for good measure 🙂 ) and is better if you are older (or higher risk) but is worse if your are younger (or lower risk.)

Anytime I've quit my job I've laughed at the COBRA figures as I could find insurance for approx. 1/7 the cost of COBRA, but then again I am male and was in my late-20s/early 30s the last time that I quit my job.

Hey one of the other people on SDN showed me this site.. Great prices..

ehealthinsurance.com

I sent it to my mother in law..

Note!!! The policies tend to have high deductibles and some have a 20% copay.. a lot cheaper than the $700 thing.. it is good if you are healthy and dont go to the doc much but you want some coverage..

This is why I love having medicaid - the best health insurance in the world! ;-)
