I guess I'll let you know how I turn out.

I didn't realize that he had a new textbook, but his Organic Chem as a Second Language really helped me out. I'm sure his textbook will be just as good.

His textbook is light Years ahead of the other texts.

We used Wade's textbook where I went, and I still bought Klein's text because it was so much better.

I was thinking about buying this textbook because my o-chem textbook (McMurry) isn't the greatest. However, unlike the overwhelming majority of textbooks which provide answers to odd-numbered problems, I heard that Klein's textbook does not include any answers to the chapter review problems---can anyone confirm this? 😕

If this is the case, I'd probably have to buy the study guide as well! Hmm, is the textbook that great? 😛

We are also using Klein's new textbook in my organic chemistry class. I bought the supplemental book Organic Chemistry Second Language book to help me understand some of the concepts in the class. And, no, the textbook doesn't include any solutions for the problems in the textbook. I consider this to be one of the biggest downfalls of the textbook.

You probably want the solutions manual anyway. With Ochem it's important to know how the mechanism works and not just the right answer. Solutions manuals will help you to learn how the think about the problem, not just spit out answers.

The solutions manual comes separate. Prepare to spend extra $$$!

Lucky you, my professor/department are total dunces about it. "Yes we realize that David Klein has a superior ability to connect with students and students tend to learn well from his material however we don't like the order of the chapters so we decided to switch back to our old text until he changes the order of his text. He could just re-write his text...". I shi*t you not, he told me this last friday. 😱 Apparently in efforts to see his book widely accepted the publisher (?) gave our university a class worth of free copies over the summer.

I interpreted this as "Klien's order is different than what I've been teaching for the last 10 years, I'm lazy and dont' want to change, therefore Klein will have to change his book". These people have Ph.D's, and can't figure out that if it's good for the 150+ students, who cares if it's midly inconvienient for the professor. *frustrating*

I bought it anyways and am using it. From what I can tell from my classmates, I'm far, far ahead in my understanding and his book actually makes me WANT to practice and do problems.

The book is miles ahead of the other two Organic texts that I own.

I think most importantly the solutions manual lets you know if you're correct or not in your answer/thinking/methodology/assumptions. What good is working 100 problems over a weekend if you're getting the majority of them wrong.

Only perfect practice makes perfect.
