I took the DAT last night (woot! 🙂)-- and am hoping to submit my application today or tomorrow. Below is my stats:

GPA: 3.56
sGPA: 3.22
AA: 22
PAT: 19 🙁

I'm a Texas resident, and will be applying to all 3 Texas schools.

However, considering my low sGPA (and now low PAT), I've spent the last month or so painstakingly creating and adjusting my list of OOS schools using the "What Schools Should I Apply To?" thread and doc toothache's 2010 Ranking excel sheet.

Below is my list of schools:

3 Texas schools
Columbia
University of Pacific
Temple
Louisville
NYU
ASDOH
Case
Boston
Tufts
Midwestern
Creighton
Marquette
Pittsburg

Total = 16 schools

I looked purely at the #'s when choosing most of these schools. It was based on a combination of % OOS students accepted, GPAs (schools with sGPA below 3.5), and whether I have completed all of their required courses (Minnesota, Michigan, and Western were eliminated based on this). There's a reach/dream OOS school or two thrown in there as well (Columbia and UoP).

What do you think of my list? Are there schools I should take off the list? Or ones that I overlooked and should add on?

I'm hoping to end up applying to 15 schools total. Do you think 15 schools is enough? I'd rather spend a few extra hundred dollars than risk having to re-apply, but money IS a huge problem for me, especially when factoring in interview costs (assuming I get any).

Thank you so much for all your help!

I'd take out Marquette, unless you live in a state close to Wisconsin (which isn't the case here). They're not all that OOS friendly.

Otherwise, your list looks pretty good.

I agree, remove Marquette. Also Columbia is questionable.

why? Columbia is not too off, the OP does have a high DAT (22AA), so I think he stands a chance.

Thank you for the replies!

I'll definitely take Marquette off the list. I initially put it on the list because, at a glance, it had a 40% (I think?) OOS acceptance rate. But I'm assuming most of those came from neighboring states, which Texas definitely isn't one. 🙂

And Columbia is one of my two dream schools -- so I'm putting it in there out of hopes and dreams more than any real expectation of getting in.

Doesn't Midwestern have more strenuous pre-reqs as opposed to Western?

For me, the problem with Western is that they don't accept any AP credits -- and my Bio, Chem, and Physics are all AP credits. Unlike Tufts and Boston, they don't accept any sort of substitutions, either. 🙁

For Midwestern, I'd still have to take Physiology (which wasn't offered at my school) and Microbiology next Spring 2012 if I do end up getting an interview from them and having a chance of an acceptance.

Although, now that you've questioned it, I am beginning to question the viability of this plan. The problem is that I've graduated and begun working -- and am thinking of only taking the courses I absolutely need to next spring for schools that give me an interview that require them.
