so my patient comes in today, and tells me he's been to an ER doc who tried to get a FB out with tweezers and said it was too deep (and that he should just go home or find someone else).

it takes me a while, but i end up getting all the metal out of his cornea... he was amazed, because he said the other doc made it seem that he would never get the metal out of his eye...

the things that some docs will say!

So im confused is that a stab at ER docs or just doctors in general who have a poor definition of patient care?

There are bad docs of all types out there. We've all seen ER docs and other non OMD MDs botch simple red eyes with significant frequency. However, there are plenty of crappy ODs out there as well so it doesn't mean anything.

Be happy they weren't MD "buddied" straight to an OMD. Its up to us to make patients realized they should not be filling up the ER with this type of problem than can easily be handled by and eye doc of either type.

ODs need to be available on call.

I'm guessing this thread will be closed within days.

Just frustration, I think that the patient didn't come straight to the original poster. No slam dunks. By the way, in what manner did you find this thread?
