I actually posted my first thread a day or two ago, where I asked the community if I should push for applying to an undergrad degree in Canada or the US, since I’m a dual degree citizen who currently lives in Canada. But it is my wish to practice medicine in the States because it is where my family is planning on moving back to.

I’ve done research outside of the answer I got in the thread. I would be considered an American applicant if I do my undergrad in Canada since I am a dual-citizen. So I wouldn’t be an international applicant.

I’ve decided to do my undergrad degree in Canada.

My plan for university is to major in a science-business dual degree because although I really want to pursue medicine, I’ve also been told that it is a little more realistic to go into a back-up plan. So my backup plan would be business. Also, most of my high school courses are all math and business anyway so I feel I’m more eligible as a business major.

I would have to take introductory courses in all three sciences since I have taken no science courses whatsoever. And then I could begin my pre-med track. I have already decided that I am not going to major in just the sciences. Whatever I do, I want to keep my business major. I also understand that a dual degree would take me longer to graduate with and I am perfectly fine with that.

I’ve also checked with AMCAS and the grade conversion system works with this for most universities in Canada: 80% - 84% = 3.7 and 85%+ = 4.0. So my goal for university for my first two years is to get at least an 80% is not an 85%.

I am not going to stress about extra curriculars yet since I’ve seen that securing study habits and a GPA is more important for the first two years. Also, I don’t want to commit myself to more than I can handle.

I feel that my plan is a secure one. I would probably have a better idea of what grades to aim for in university after I get an acceptance. For now, I’ve applied to many Commerce/BBA programs so I am still waiting for around February/March when my acceptances start coming in.

Note: I’ve been told that as a backup plan, if I am at an disadvantage because of my living situation, that I should just apply to Caribbean universities since they accept Canadian and American students, and then I could just secure a residency in a field in the US. Not sure how reliable this information is, but I do have a cousin who graduated from AUA and is now a general pediatrician in the South (States).
