I want to do research and possibly get a MD/MS (I don't want to do MSTP). Is this a good list of schools for me? I'm a cali resident. My stats are 35 MCAT, 3.98 GPA, research- and tutoring-oriented ECs, some clinical/non-clinical volunteering

You will have better like in the "What are my chances" section of pre allo. I think catalystik frequents that subforum and he can point you in the right direction as far as the list goes.

Just noticed this thread now. Your schools overlap with a lot of mine except that I didn't apply to New York schools because of the cost of living. Also, I looked into the entering class profile 2011 or 2012 (can't remember) at Rochester, if I remember correctly, I didn't see any matriculants from Cali. I applied to Rochester too, but now I wonder if I might as well just flush $100 down the toilet.

You have a good list for your stats, however you mentioned you really want to do research. If you have good research experience, or have a publication, I'd consider slapping some more top-tier schools on there. They will be reach schools, but they are long shots for everyone applying. But if you want to do research, those are the schools to do them at.

Take out ALbany, drexel, hofstra, jefferson, mc wisconsin, rosalind franklin, rush. i have similar stats and applied to those schools. my app screams research/academic medicine, and I have not gotten interviews to the aforementioned schools, while I have gotten interviews to the others (duke, boston, case, pitt, etc). learn from me and save yourself some money!

Getting interviewed at top-tier/mid-tier schools but not low-tier.. that's a paradox. Maybe those schools are still getting ready for the interview process.

If you want to do research but not an MSTP, maybe look at CCLCM? Looks like you've got the stats for it.
