Hi Everybody,

I just found out about this forum today after taking my DAT yesterday. Here are my scores:

I got my BS in Bio more than 5 years ago. After doing a number of different things in my life, I decided that I want to be a dentist. My overall GPA is around a 3.86 and my BIO is about the same. Do you think these scores are good enough to get into a California school? I would really like to go to UCLA but I think that my score is too low.

These are bad? Ummmmmm no. They are good and with your GPA don't give yourself an ulcer. You will get in somewhere (providing you applied to the right schools). Quit worrying before we need to use a difibrulator!! (sp?) GOOD LUCK AND JUST SIT BACK AND BE HAPPY! 😀

Your scores are excellent. I am sure a number of the members of this website would trade their scores for yours. I don't know if you have seen the ADEA's guide to dental schools but in it all stats are listed. UCLA's averages are 3.59 overall 3.65 science with a 22/19 on the DAT. Remember those are averages so students with lower scores do get accepted. If you don't get into UCLA you should get into a California school as long as you are a CA resident or a WICHIE student. One bit of advice to you and others who may read this post…if your DAT scores are 18 or over do not worry b/c you well know that the average DAT score for accepted students is 18.

I finally submitted my application yesterday night (10/19/2004). I hope it's not too late. I'm still waiting on a professor to complete her letter or recommendation. Now the waiting game begins...

By the way, I'm planning to take the test again sometime in Feb of 2005. I think I can do better because I only had 1 month to review stuff that I learned more than 8 years ago.

First of all your DAT isn't a problem. Stop worrying about it. The bigger problem is that you dont have your apps in. That'll hurt you much more.

you're in good hands my friend. i too would gladly trade my scores for yours. if you're not comfortable i say retake it just to see what happens. i think if you studied another month you'll rock that test! just wait and see first if you get interviews then study...that's what i say. other than that, don't stress over it. remember that when you send in your app it takes about 6 weeks for the schools to receive the materials. i just checked 5 min. ago and they said they're sending it all out next week. i sent in my stuff sept. 13th. good luck!

you're welcome! i simply called them and asked. i had heard before from justletmein that it takes about 6 weeks for them to process and send your apps to the schools. today's phone call proved just that. so my advice...send it in asap! good luck with that and see you at dental school! not if, but when we get accepted!

Dude, you've still got a great shot at UCLA! A friend of mine applied much later than you and he still got in... his DAT was slightly higher.. but his GPA is no where as high as yours.. don't sweat it man. They interview late too! UCLA is a dream school for me too! Goodluck brotha man!

I have 20/19/18 with a 3.5 in EE. I contacted UCLA, and the lady replied "your GPA is competitive and your DAT scores are solid scores." Not sure how much that is true, but I think we'll get an invite.

Good scores!! I expect you to receive several interviews. Your goal (I hope) is to become a competent and highly skilled dentist and you can become that at any of the schools on you list, so don't worry about being out of UCLA's range (although I would still toss my hat in the ring). Best of luck! 👍
