Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could give me some critiquing on my situation. I failed my COMLEX Step 1 the first time but rebounded the second time and scored in the 70th percentile. I have about average/a bit below average pre clinical scores but my 3rd year clerkships were all honors, including all three of my core internal medicine rotations (which is my area of interest). I have gotten a glowing letter from my Director of Medical Education, a glowing letter from a medical director from the only AIDS resource clinic in the area who also was a previous professor for one of the residency programs I am applying too in at Univ. of Miami, and probably the best letter I could have asked for from my mentor/attending from one of my internal med. rotations who now teaches at the school affiliated with the residency program I am applying to as my first choice (Mt. Sinai, in Miami) and who was also a graduate from that program as Chief Resident. I am also doing 3 electives, including two SUB-I's, one being with the DME of the program and the other being a speciality elective with one of the program directors of the residency program. I was wondering if these above situations hurt or help me in a general sense in getting into a internal med. program? Thanks for your input!

Sounds like the first test was a fluke. Regardless, IM residencies go unfilled every year. You will get a spot if you want it, just maybe not a super competitive program. Good luck.
