Street Philosopher: No.... I'm planning on becoming a doctor, but thanks for the encouragement.

DoctorKevin: When I saw 1 new message, I thought it was from a school.... possibly an interview....

anyways, I was just trying to be funny

Trying hard to laugh at myself for being obsessed. Just had to share that.

I totally understand! I check my e-mail about every 15 minutes, and when the screen loads and I see all this new mail, I get excited, and it turns out to be nothing. But there's always next time. That's what makes this so fun. Anticipation. 😀

I hear you, lisa. I work for the med school where I really, really want to get accepted, and I about lose it every time I get any mail from them. And then it's like a benefits notice or something.

LOL, yeah some of the junk mail subject lines have a word or two that is the same as the name of a school or something related to applications and my heart skips a beat too... 🙂

Its sad but kinda fun in a way....

i hope you're not planning on becoming a storyteller

Reading this made my day.😀

It's even worse since for the past week, I've only had the opportunity to check my E-Mail once a day, and when I have about 10 messages waiting for me, I get into histerics thinking that the odds are that one of them will be from some school. Then it's even worse when none of them are, or it's just an E-Mail saying my application is complete and I can expect a decision sometime in the next 27 months 😛

Okay, here's a story for you.....

My husband calls me on my cell phone (while I'm driving on the freeway during rush hour traffic) to tell me he just picked up the mail and there was a letter from UCSF. I had him hold the line until I could pull off the freeway in the safe spot. So, he opens the letter and starts reading, "Dear Applicant, You are invited to....
mumble, mumble, mumble......to attend.....mumble, mumble, mumble. At this point I start with the screaming yippees. Then I said, "Are you sure it's from UCSF?" He looks at it again. "Uh-oh, it's from UC Davis." They had already rejected me via e-mail (which I am still seething about). Now I'm confused. "Honey, look at the letterhead again. What department is it from?" Turns out to be an offer to attend their post bacc. Sigh. He meant well.

Several weeks later.............I am still anxiously awaiting a response from UCSF. According to my fellow posters on SDN, a batch of letters, both accepts and rejects, had just gone out, so my tension level was high. I called my husband and asked him to be sure and pick up the mail from the post office that day. I proceeded to go from school to work and didn't hear from him. I assumed, alas, no letter for me.

I get home about midnight. We had no electricity (that is another story) so I walk in the house with my flashlight and there on the kitchen table..........Behold!...........the FAT ENVELOPE from UCSF within my circle of light! I run to the bedroom and wake up my husband. "Honey, Honey, wake up! I got in to UCSF! Why didn't you call me?" He was so afraid to blow it and hurt my feelings he just couldn't call me again.

And, they lived happily ever after.

I'm refreshing my email and get one from the Dean saying to call her immediately, I'm like OK, but it was from 3 hours back b/c I had gone out to lunch and did not check again...

So I call back and I get the following message..."Hi, I am on vacation for the next 2 weeks, but leave a message and I will return your call." 😱

So I email back, call her secretary, etc. Then I call home 3 hours later and she had left another message with a different number. I call and then she goes on about how hard it was to get in touch with me and that I got in! I think these little moments make it fun...so just set your email on your "favorites" link, and relax, check every 15 min and don't worry everybody is neurotic like that and everyone does it.😀

Did anybody else get that obnoxious thing from Penn State that basically said their secondary isn't online yet, but to just be patient. I was like "WTF?-over" They should have just waited till it was ready rather than getting me all primed to go to town on it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Penn State one. Last year it was just a bunch of nonsense that took like 5 min...and then a "no more than" 50 word blurb about why you wanna go to Penn State. I wrote some obnoxious poem about chocolate and farms and stuff (seriously). 51 words. Mmmm, chocolate. 😎
