This summer I will be working as a lifeguard at a Six flags waterpark for one month and then in Florida for 2 months. I've been guarding every summer for about the last 5 years.
When talking to ppl about summer plans, everyone seems to be doing research or clinical work. I've had some tell me that I need to get a "real job" if i'm considering medical school.
I have plenty of clinical volunteering experiences under my belt and enjoy doing this kind of work during the summers because it gets me outside in the sun and away from a desk and computer.
I'm mostly mad because ppl don't realize that although I many not be finding the cure for cancer this summer, lifeguarding will require a lot of responsibility and I will have to deal with many weird emergency situations.
Plus I get the bonus of competitions and instructing as well.
So whats the consensus out there?
Would you guys really say that being a lifeguard is a juvenile summer job and I should go do "something more serious"?
What are some of your summer plans?
