These types of stories are awesome. Genius and innovation are often rooted in non-conformity; whereas, our educational system promotes conformity.

Yeah, but usually, these kind of stories are complete bs. I very much want to believe that something like this can be done for autistic kids, but Mrs. Barnett asserting that she 'reached about 200 kids' and was able to 'repeat the results with almost all of the kids' makes me suspicious, but, like I said, I really want to be able to believe it, which is why I posted it up here to see if we have any resident experts on the topic and find out what they felt about it. I know next to nothing about Autism/Aspergers.

They say a lot of genius-level people are weird in some way. Perhaps there is a link between one area of the brain being over-stimulated (which drives the genius) and another area being deprived (social/emotional weirdness). Repeatable results sounds bogus though.

I loved how he said "in education there is learning of course, then there is thinking" - that sums up medicine, or actually maybe anything.

I mean the idea of focusing on what your child can do seems like a pretty common sense one, but maybe it's lost in the label. I'd like to see the study that shows she can have similar results with other kids, lol.

Because most people aren't geniuses and can't be innovative enough. Conformity is a safe way to become a productive member of society.
