Question is pretty simple to answer but I can't seem to find a straight answer.
I know you get 5 attempts to take the exam before you have to go to the board and do whatever it is for a further chance, but my question is, how long is it that you get to take those 5 attempts after graduation. As in, lets say you graduate May, 2017, then you first take Naplex in June 2017, after that if it doesn't go so well, you will have 4 attempts left, but how long do you have to do those attempts, like is June 2018 the deadline or am i just really really confused...
This is what it says in the NABP website
Exam Limits: 5 Attempts
You are allowed a maximum of 5 attempts to pass the NAPLEX. After a failed attempt, you must wait 45 days to next attempt the NAPLEX. Some exceptions may apply, as NABP member boards retain the authority to determine the number of attempts per candidate in their jurisdiction. Contact NABP
Customer Service for more information.
I am in FL, so the way it works here, is that when you are about to graduate, school sends all the paperwork to the board, the board will verify that everything is fine, and they give you a year when you can test based on that particular paperwork school sent ( if passes that year you will have to submit everything again). You pay the test fee to NABP and you get your ATT, then, you pick your date.
So if you graduated from school in May, and tested in June, and you failed in June, then you must wait 45 days from the date you took the exam before you can pay to NABP and get another ATT, then you pick your test date again. If you fail again, you have to wait 45 days (again), pay to NABP and wait for the ATT, and try again.
Check this out: This is what you get in the ATT email from pearson.
Authorized Candidate: Unemployed, now what?
NABP ID: xxxxxx
Client Authorization ID: bla bla bla
Pearson VUE Authorization ID: tara tara dara
Exam: NAPLEX - North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination
Authorized Testing Dates (as indicated or at the discretion of the board of pharmacy): 26 May 2016 - 25 May 2017 (I graduated in May 2016)
So in that one year when the paperwork from school is still active you can "burn" all you total 5 attempts (now you wait 45 days between attempts, before Nov 2016 you had to wait 90 days between attempts). So, it doesn't matter if you take the NAPLEX
once/paperwork submitted. Or, if you take it
5 times/paperwork submitted.
Bottom line, you have 5 attempts in total in your natural life time before doing remedial work and ask the board if they allow you another extra attempt.
