hi -i have been trying to study for naplex for months now and not able to retain informations and i managed to study maybe 8 chapters so far . I graduated years ago with Bachelor degree and now seems i am struggling just like a new student . I work both full time and prn jobs and have only weekends to study but on these 2 days i have tons of things to take care of and can not quit or decrease my hours . i have rx prep course but i feel i need extra assistance. That being said , has anyone tried tutoring ???? any good ones you can recommend ?????? and if you have any advise regarding how to study and get done with this test faster ,i would appreciate it !!!!!

I don't know what original country you qualified as a pharmacist, but surely you took your first exams seriously. Consider giving yourself more time to take the study seriously before considering a tutor. A tutor cannot help with retention, that's really on you. A tutor can clarify and force you to pay attention like a trainer, but you have to train.

My advice on retention on memorizing most of the pharmacopeia and basic science was to develop mneumonics for them. Most of my lists in my head for benzodiazepine half lives, physiology, and the odd trivia that you ended up having to remember was developed that way. Unfortunately, all of my mneumonics are very non-PC (which is why I remember them). One of the milder examples I have for male reproductive physiology was "point and shoot" (parasympathetic for one part and sympathetic for the other part). But I'm definitely not teaching my students non-PC humor, hell, I just had pronoun sensitivity training this academic year.

I am taking too long to finish any chapter bcuz i keep trying to memorize and it does Not work
I hoped that i would take Naplex in 6 months but it seems a year is not even enough
I try to come up with ways to remember certain things but after a week ,it is all gone
I thought Maybe paying a tutor will make me more serious and he or she may have a better way to handle this test

Usually I would say just read the RxPrep book and have the calculations down and you'd be fine. But in this case I'd also say get the video course. Reading can be boring. Videos are easier to pay attention to. Make flashcards with quizlet. There are already a lot of sets online. You could also buy a question bank. You dont retain info by reading. Only by testing yourself and thus establishing the neural connections needed to form memories.

Keep in mind the NAPLEX is a minimum competency test. You can actually get quite a few questions wrong and do well. Take the pre Naplex to see where you stand. From what I've heard expect your score to be about 10 points higher on the real thing. The NAPLEX questions can be hard but they curve the heck out of it.
I have the whole rx prep course with quiz bank and i have been using it .

For example , Diabetes chapter i read it twice when i try to do the quiz bank i do not do really well

Not sure what is the problem !!!?

I want to take the prenaplex but i want to get done with calculation chapters ,i have been too scared to start it since i am not doing great on the others
