Hi everyone, I was wondering if it was okay (not seen as unprofessional) to have a brief narrative in my personal statement. Right now I have three lines of dialogue to illustrate a conversation that was meaningful to me. Is this appropriate, or will it be looked down upon?

Thanks!

If you tell a good story, I don't see why not. The way I see it, the most important thing about PS is that it's an enjoyable read. Adcom reads so many PS that ones that stand out to them are ones that they enjoy reading, regardless of the author's writing style.

Thank you for your feedback! I forgot to say that my narrative is actually the very first paragraph. Does this affect my situation?

As long as it makes sense in the context of the overall personal statement. I get the impression some people try to shoehorn this stuff in and it ends up being awkward.
