Has anyone here recently applied for their National Provider Identification number? Did you do it yourself or did someone handle it for you?

I ask because the administrator for my hospital can't even get my name correct (it's misspelled on the email she forwarded to me from NPPES).

Anyone have luck changing their login information? i.e. login name, secret question, etc. I can't even log into my own profile currently to verify that they didn't screw up anything else.

I wish I could be of more help, but I do know that there is an 800 number you can call. I had to get something from them years ago and I called them. They were helpful.

I did it myself, online and it took less than 10 minutes. I almost fell on the floor when I got a reply and my number e-mailed to me within thirty minutes.

NPI was one of the easiest things to get....
UNLIKE getting a UPIN (or making the tiniest change to a practice address...) which requires like 50 pages in paperwork!

Super 5 year bump but....

When you apply as a resident for the NPI...what do you answer to the question "is the provider the sole proprietor"? Yes/No

no. sole proprietor means if you have your own office/private practice

No. That's only if you run a solo practice that you own.

Okay thanks....and what about the business practice location? I just put in the Office of Education's address in the university hospital (the hospital that is my primary location).

Oops. I put my address and marked yes. As a resident, I doubt it really even matters.

ditto

Who knew anything with "National" on it could be this fast.

Address
For Business Mail Address, you put the full address of the Dept of your residency training without mentioning the department name.
ie.
3478 Enclemente blvd
Box 78994
Stanred, CA 94801

And all addresses requested from that point forward should be the same as business mail address.

Phone and Email
For contact phone and email, though, you should use your personal information.

Sole Proprietor?
And no, you're not a sole proprietor

If you used your personal email address (not the program's), there's nothing to worry about.

You should have received an email with a tracking number. You can track it that way.

Remember, though, they do quote you a 15 business day turnaround time. So I'd say wait a day or two and then email your prog coordinator and see if other interns-to-be (I love it) at your program have the same complaint.

I'm sure it's nothing.🙂

since you don't have a license # yet (as most of us don't), you can register in the interim as a student. Like me, you've probably sent in your application for whatever state license you're going to be completing residency in.

Your NPI will be generated anyway and you can update your license # into the registry when it is available.
