Hey everyone, I just took NBME 6 this afternoon and was looking to see if anyone had any input on how well this one correlates with the real deal. I did a search and found nothing on this form posted. I decided to take this one because word of mouth says this and form 3 are the most approximate to the real exam, but this one (6) is newer.

Amazingly, the exam felt easy while I was doing it, but I made mistakes here and there which I didn't even see, since I obviously didn't hit 800....that's kind of frustrating. One thing is to barrage through questions and KNOW that you don't know them, so therefore you understand why you got them wrong. But I can say there wasn't a single question on the form I didn't at least recognize and understand, despite there being a couple of things I couldn't recall off the top of my head. So I have no idea where I went wrong...my weaknesses are STILL in the same places, mainly cardio for one thing (I don't know where I'm slipping up) and a bit of renal and general principles of health and disease 🙂confused🙂...

I'm frustrated because I'm 4 days away and really think I hit a plateau..... No matter what I review, I don't really advance much. I wonder if I'm overthinking questions too much?

Here's where I stand as of now:
USMLE world Q bank completed, cumulative 67% correct
USMLE world self assessment 8 days before exam = 230
NBME 6 form 5 days before exam (today) = 234
Exam is on the 16th....I'm now realistically aiming for 230, and anything over that would be a bonus....

So has anyone out there done form 6 and found a similarity/correation with your score on the real thing?

man Im in the same boat as you are I thought the USMLE W sim exam was very similar to the NBME 6. the question about transformation was almost exactly the same. Im also taking my exam on the 16th, wish i had more input for you

I'm actually in almost the exact same situation as well: same test date and UW%, although my NBME 6 was about 20 points lower (2 weeks out) and my UW sim test was 20 points higher (1 week out), so I'm a little anxious to see which way this gravitates toward

i was wondering this myself, as i took nbme 6 this week and was hoping it was a good correlator. one of my buddies who took it about a week before his test got within 2 points of the same score, so based on that i'm thinking it is a good correlator.

to the OP those are good scores, and a great UW percentage IMO, i think you will exceed ur 230 goal

Just curious....Have you guys taken NBME 3 or 4? If so, when in your review did you take it and what was your score? I'm about to do another NBME tomorrow and was torn between 6 or 2. My exam is on June 26. I have 2 more weeks to go and am feeling the crunch.

Sorry Hurricane, don't mean to side-rail your thread. But I may be in the same boat and was wondering where I stand.

i'm in a similar position (as you know hsans).
hey hsans, i saw a score on here, about some dude who got a 253 on 6 and then got a 252 on the real deal.

hopefully you can get your 245 and i can get my 242!

to the op, i hope it predicts-sounds like it does-but who the hell knows?
if you get a test full of your strengths and light on your weaknesses i would think your nbme 6 score would underpredict by up to 15 points or so, but that could go the exact opposite way as well. :scared:

here's sending out a nice little prayer to the big guy that we all get tests that cater towards our strongest muscles.

hey buddy! my god, wouldn't that be incredible if we did that well. thanks for the update, on the other person who took nbme 6 - that sounds promising!

i agree, i live in fear these last weeks that my test will be chock full of everything i hate (i have given up on biochem pathways they make me sick and i will never learn anatomy)...but hoping for the best.

the thing that really helped me for biochem was zooming out and then zooming back in. if you can get a hold of the kaplan biochem textbook, look at chapter 11. it puts all of metabolism on one page without giving you a cluster**** of enzymes. Right out the big picture on a piece of paper. i.e. when insulin is activated what pathways are going to be active, or when you're starving what pathways are going to be active.

so for example, i just ate a steak.

insulin spike-
activation of glycolysis
fatty acid synthesis

inhibition of gluconeogenesis
fatty acid oxidation

thus when you are able to get the big picture in mind, you will easily be able to link regulation together. fill in the enzymes/dz's afterwards. it'll stick waayyy better than rotely trying to shove that in the hippocampus. that's the way i approached it, and it really helped me.

good luck, keep me updated on your progress!

im pretty much in the same boat. just took nbme 6 and what im doing is just really focusing on my weaknesses. i had a few systems i did poorly on so im just spending most of the next few days doing mostly one of those systems a day and spending any other time i might have just doing general first aid review. also throwing a little qbank in there when i feel like it.

statistically speaking...youll be able to improve your score a lot more working on your weaknesses rather than getting those few really obscure questions that really lie in your strengths.

another piece of advice which is very hard to get on this forum (especially if you visit here a lot). do not get obsessed with predicting your score. you are working hard and you arent going to work any harder if youre thinking about htat number. in fact...i would say itll hinder you more than it will help. so just forget about it for now...finish strong...and you shuold see your score is better come test day. after all...4 days of really reviewing and memorizing can really do wonders if you think about it.

hear, hear

The main problem you are going to encounter is that since 6 is new and the scores are delayed this year, you are not going to get a good sample size to gauge how effective a test it was until July.

i took nbme 6 a week before the exam. only one point difference between scores.

good luck!

NBME 6 = 229 one week before test date

Actual test = 230

Seemed to represent real test. Others I know improved around 10 points from their NBME 6 score that they also took one week prior to the real thing.

I took NBME 6 about 10 days before my actual test and it underpredicted my score by 7 points (I studied more those last 10 days).

Hurricane95, nice avatar. mercedes terrell mmmmm

NBME6 = 230 or so
UWSA1/2 = 248/250
real deal on 6/13 = 240

I got a 233 on NBME 6 but a 244/99 on the real thing. Overall kaplan q bank was the best predictor. They said 247.
