thing is we get like a week to prepare for it...
why did you wait until now to start prepping for it ? i say read first aid in that week or watch all of pathoma

It's an excellent predictor of what you would get on step 1 were you to do it on the same day.

I think it's supposed to, and n = 4ish but a few of my classmates and I would disagree. To my friends and I, it felt completely different than how my USMLE felt a few weeks later. My average score of the rest of the NBMEs predicted my USMLE score within a point or two, while my CBSE score was about 20 points lower.

you take this before dedicated to get a feel for style, and you weakness.

difficulty wise which qbank best correlates with the difficulty of the CBSE? i was told uworld was much harder.

i find kaplan much harder than UWORLD, but uworld question ive been told are more representative of what you will see. The explanations are better

My school is having us do one in February. I don't really know why they do that, because we still have 1.5 months of class afterwards. So if you do poorly, there's not really anything you can do about it in the near term because you still have class to deal with. Maybe they have some special program for those students to do for review alongside class, but the people who would struggle on a CBSE at that point are also the people who probably struggle with class so having them do extra stuff would probably make their struggle even worse. Not really sure of the utility besides catching struggling/high risk of failing people on their radar early enough maybe to consider delaying 3rd year.

You have to get a 180 equivalent to pass. If you don't score >180, they make you take another one in early April and you have to score >200. Otherwise if you pass, you're free and you start your dedicated without any interference/monitoring. I think they do this both to let us see where we're at, and to make sure people don't take it until they're ready.

Not to hijack the thread, but what are people's feelings toward studying over winter break? I've done well in class and not worried about passing a February CBSE but would be interested in hearing from people who have taken step 1 and their thoughts on if studying or doing a "mini dedicated" over WB is worth it. I was thinking of taking a week in the middle of break to watch pathoma + sketchy + review FA. Not sure if it would be worth sacrificing a whole week. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you have.

havent taken step but i have asked my third years this question and the told me it depends on you. If you feel that you are really weak at a subject( for me its neuro) learn it. If you feel fine with everything dont, but make a schedule for dedicated is a must

Just review pathoma in the week before it and treat it as a starting point. I did this and got 230 on it and paid attention to my weak points. Focused on these areas and score easily improved. My point is don't let it stress you out if you do poorly just use the data to improve.

i was told the questions are more straightforward than step, more similar to usmle rx than uworld. Thing is we have to pass it too like the above poster mentioned as well.

i was told the questions are more straightforward than step,
That was true for all but one section (my first section was very hard similar to step)
Also the grading takes into account the difficulty and adjusts accordingly. That's why the relatively easier practice NBMEs still predict well despite being easier than the real deal

for our school we have to pass the CBSE does anyone know whats the best predictor to how well you will do on the CBSE? like any other assessment tool?

Same case here. I would also like to know.

It predicts your score to the extent that if you took it today that's what you'll get. You should use this as a guide on what you need to focus on
