nbme question need explanation for answer

the question is in the picture. basically the pt is polypharm + depression, and they ask what is the cause of the depression. the answer is propanolol. can someone tell me why ?

The whole passage is basically talking about beta blocker effects. BB are thought to cause depression and propranolol is the most common offender due to it is highly lipophilic.

You need to know the toxicity for each drug and what JDUB mentioned above is bang on.
lipophilic = cross BB = CNS effects, they might not mention depression and something else so watch out for that.

Benzo= have the least SE from the psy drugs esp Barbiturates : usually resp depression
Digoxin= causes changes in the ekg such st segment scooping and yellow vision
Haloperidol = is a antipsycho which causes EPS (Parkinson symptoms)
Propranolol= causes depression (this is not mentioned in FA but i think was mentioned in UW)
Ranitidine= H2 blocker affects creatinine excretion
