Hello,

All the older kids I talk to say that q-bank questions are not reflective of the actual STEP I, and how the actual exam is more thinking oriented and q-bank is more detail oriented. Also, I have heard that the passages on the real exam are longer than those in q-bank.

Curious about this this, I decided to spring the $45 for the NBME (form 1) and find out what they were talking about. So, having completed it, I noticed that it was almost exactly what I would expect from Q-bank. There were a lot of questions that required only a quick regurgitation of a piece of knowledge, and not an elaborate 3 or 4 logic jumps that everyone seems to talk about. Also, I found that the passages were the same length as Q-bank, and in some instances a lot shorter.

So my question is (after this long introduction  ), how reflective is the format of the NBME samples of the real deal?

kind regards,
Arnold Chiari

PS
I took some notes on each section, which I will be going over sometime this weekend, if there is anyone out there who did this test recently and is open to exchanging thoughts on some of the quesions, please get in touch.

The NBME questions are actual retired questions... so they're the closest questions you could find as far as I know...
