Hey All,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge about applying for special accommodations for the NBME USMLE Step 1. I have already applied and they quoted me that it could take up to 60 days to get a decision. I was wondering if it actually takes that long? If you've applied and heard back or know anyone who has, I'd really like to know if they heard back sooner/ how long it actually took them to hear back. For me it would mean the difference between having to delay a second 3rd year rotation which I'd really not want to do. Thanks!

I'm just curious, but what condition allows for extra time? There is a girl in a wheelchair in my class and I don't believe she got extra time for anything except maybe an additional minute in anatomy to identify structures. I have seen some people staying longer after the NBME shelf exams have concluded for the rest of us. I would assume that conditions allowing for extra time on NBME shelf exams and USMLE exams are the same since the NBME makes both shelf exams and USMLE. I'd appreciate an answer, no worries if it's too personal and you don't feel comfortable.
