Hey All,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge about applying for special accommodations for the NBME USMLE Step 1. I have already applied and they quoted me that it could take up to 60 days to get a decision. I was wondering if it actually takes that long? If you've applied and heard back or know anyone who has, I'd really like to know if they heard back sooner/ how long it actually took them to hear back. For me it would mean the difference between having to delay a second 3rd year rotation which I'd really not want to do. Thanks!

The last I'd read about this is that the NBME/NBOME are given substantially more latitude to refuse accommodations because (surprise) they're training professional students who shouldn't need as much help.

Both of these institutions are also apparently hopping mad that accommodations are handed out like candy for the MCAT. This gets lots of people through the door into medical school who won't be getting those accommodations for step 1.

Furthermore, you have to consider the wisdom in going through with the accommodations to begin with. IIRC, you basically get an asterisk next to your score and an explanation of what the accommodations were. This makes it harder for your score to be taken seriously.
