I am a 3rd year dental student in florida but am looking to move to NC/SC after graduation either to work private practice/state health/GPR/AEGD. I was just wondering if anyone knew the reciprocity rules for licensure?
I really dont want to fly to UNC to take the boards b/c then I will have a hard time finding patients.

i believe many states take the florida boards because it is under the same umbrella as nerb. the only thing i'm not sure of is if you need to do anything after taking the florida boards
someone may want to correct me if i'm wrong, though

North Carolina requires CRDTS. not sure of south carolina (check out their website). if you take and pass FL, you can move to any state after practicing 5 yrs. good luck

North Carolina requires CITA, the council of interstate testing agency, NOT CRDTS

Its the same test as NERB but given at different locations...😡

I am in the middle of buying a practice in NC or SC and believe me, I am really not excited about NC because I'll have to take another board exam.

Anyone have any idea if its possible to petition to the state board of dentistry to get your NERB score accepted by NC?

your right, sorry about the wrong info. i dont think so, i was also interested in moving to NC, but they dont accept my FL (which is a NERB exam), until after working here for 5 yrs. however, they do have a provisional license, where they give you a license where you can work with somebody else (not by yourself) but you have to take and pass the CITA the next time it's administered. you also have to have practiced for at least 2 yrs prior and have to have passed a licensing exam (you couldn't have obtained licensure by residency; i'm seeing that a lot..)

i would definitely advise you to not purchase a practice until you have your license in hand, or at least have satisfied all the requirements and just waiting for it to arrive. you never know what can happen, and you dont want to be stuck with a loan payment of $10K with no job. good luck

thanks guys.
What's the best way for me to get patients at UNC for the CITA if I am coming from FL? Are there any companies that will screen and guarantee me patients for the exam?
