am jus starting my 2nd time toothlaw....am pretty lost and am stuck in micro path. will be stuck with anat, biochem and physio too i bet! dental anat is relatively ok so far. its so tuff to remember what i studied ages ago!

3weeks! eeks thats scary!

i have not seen or tried the kaplan qs u talked about. i have enough to do with decks and papers!

all the best everyone...... D day is nearly here!😱

Thanks Toothmail..for your updates..!!!I How do you find the Little Brown Biochem book ? Was it useful for you ..Can you post the link where /or rather from whom you brought the book..That will of some help to me.
Thanks
Toothlaw

hi toothlaw

yes the little brown review book is very useful since i had forgotten most of biochem and really needed to learn it again in an easy quick way (not from lippincott!!)....i got it from the harvard medical library since my husband has access to it. i dont have it any longer since i am done with reading it for the basics. i still find biochem tuff though. biochem is really a volatile subject.

amazon.com has the book for sale is what i heard. do try that site. u dont have much time so do it soon!!!

all the best and i hope the test goes great for all of us!!!

Thanks Toothmail..
How is everyone preparation going on..?..

Hi,
Is taking the Dental Anatomy Section of (Part1 exams) before taking Micro-patho in the afternoon better?
Can anyone who has taken DA before Micro-patho let us know the pros and cons??
Thanks
Toothlaw

hi tooth law,
it actually depends, how u think u ll be able to do better, but as long as u re not spending too much time on ny question,it s not really goin to make any difference...and u shall be fine either way.
some times DA tkes a while in the occlusal movement questions, and M/P is like either u know or u dont know?so does not take that long,if u know the answers...
the bottom line is manage ur time well, and save some time to review the answers.
good luck to all appearing in dec.
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hi everyone,

my suggestion is: " answer dental anatomy right before micro/path" it is the most exhausting subject.

Good luck 😉

oppps!!!! 🙄 I mean before.

Hi,
I hope that all of us get good scores and get into schools

Toothlaw

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what are the best materials/ books to prepare for my upcoming TOEFL test?

How long does it take for the scores to be received by the dental school that we apply to, if we take the Computer based test ..CBT..?

"SCORE it Now" ..by ETS ..is that good? or just a Barrons book would do?I would like to practice for the " Essay " part of toefl.
Thanks
Toothlaw😛

hi toothlaw,
Toefl is a very easy test provided your basic grammar is good.when you register for the test they will sent you 2 practice test CD's which you can do at home.it will help you with the pattern of qtns and time management .
Barron's is good ,they have a separate book for essays, which have the compilation of all the essay topics ever asked.that should be more than enough for preparation-MY OPINION.All the local libraries will have lots of preparation materials for TOEFL with CD's .
I don't know abt 'score it now'.never used it....

Thanks Dentek for all the info .

hi......................anyone taking up part -1 july 2004?
me intern in india...............................................help me with what to study and fromwhere??????????????????????????

hi meetlife,
hope you r getting started with ur preparation.
How good you think you r in ur basics. The first and second year stuff.U need to be thorough with all those.
Material that will help you are,
The Previous papers,Dental Decks(browse the forum u get the inform regarding these)All the text books you followed previously and kaplan NBDE notes or the USMLE notes for ANAT,PHYSIO-BIOCHEM,PATHO-MICRO and some good books for the dental anatomy section.
If you think u r good at basics,it will be a smooth sail with some good last minute effort,If ur not confident u need to put lot of effort.
WISH YOU THE VERY BEST FOR UR PREP
dentiste

My advice:
DO NOT pay a thousand dollars for Dental Kaplan. It sucks!!!
Do a search on it on this forum and you'll find out. Plenty of discussion in this topic have taken place before.

thanks meggs,
by the way did you refer to Kaplan at all!! Have heard a lot abt it.

hi ratson,
welcome to SDN.for part-1 concentrate on ASDA papers and dental decks.go through the decks atleast 3 times,it is really valuable.abt Kaplan, people have conflicting opinions.some say it is helpful and some say it is not.if you can get a copy for a low price you can use it for reference.but $1000 is too much ,esp if you have your old texts and notes for reference.
by the way,i saw in another post you are invited for UOP interview in march,if you didnot take part-1 till now ,how did you apply to UOP?or are there 2 ratsons in the forum?I am confused...😕 😕

Hmm.. I'd like to disagree. I'ts a nice source esp if you have been out of touch with your school/studies for long. Gives you a idea on how to go about preparing for the exam. It's expensive but ..... it gives you a focus, kinda narrows things down a bit for you.

Totally the opposite for me! 😛

Hey Dentek 2,
thanks for your advice. As for the boards I am retaking them ,as I only got 84,not a decent score by anymeasure. I plan to be more serious this time and not repeat the mistakes I made last time. I really did poorly in BIOchem that got my scores down!!!!!!!!!!!

I am trying to get some help from all the geniuses on the forum to try and understand some good study methods. Please do keep writing your advice.

One qns to all...............If the Kapaln series is not really great did anyone register for the 3 month course or any other classes??????????

Thanks

ratson, whta were the mistakes you did previously, did you read from decks last time?i also got low score 85 and my problem was that i never knew about decks or kaplan at that time when i took the test and i simply read from old texts.so i think that could be the reason for my low score.though i am bit scred to retake part1 i am not sure if i will get lower than last time...

hi ratson,
I have a friend who took the 3 month course.she said it was helpful esp biochem and physio section.the kaplan Qtn banks are also very resourceful ,I guess.you need to attend the classes to get those. If you are trying to improve your scores give it your best...do a search in the "dental" forum and see what the dental students in U.S use for preparation.they had a lot of threads abt that in august when the results came.best of luck...and thanks for clearing my doubt abt UOP.😀 😀

Dentek 2 and Green emerald,
Thanks for your replies. I think what really got me down was that I did a general overview rather than a more specific understanding of the subjects.
I have another link where I have asked for the names of reference books. Please see if you could help there............

hi
i am taking up boards in 2004.......whole thing is so scary.......
ASDA question papers and dental decks are the sufficient.........i have started with the text............
