I scored a 39R on the MCAT in August 2012, and I was wondering if any schools would be willing to accept these for the upcoming application season as they would be nearly 4 years old by the time of matriculation. I understand that the majority of schools will not accept scores >3 years, but I'm hoping there will be a chance I can still use this score somewhere.

I'm from Texas so I'm particularly interested in TMDSAS schools but would like to know if there's any point to applying anywhere at all without taking another MCAT. It's my understanding that this is a good score, and I don't think I could do as well again. Thanks!

OP gives no info beyond MCAT score and years since MCAT score. Where's the shoe-in part again in a cutthroat state like TX?

True, I'm making an assumption that a guy with a 39 isn't going to have a sub-3.0, and can manage to do at least a little shadowing and volunteering. A score that high will open a lot of doors for you.

It's not even that easy any more. You still need a lot more than a little shadowing and volunteering. A score like that opens doors but doesn't necessarily get you through them (@Goro's favorite cliche).

I'm on mobile right now, so I can't check your app, but I was accepted to a TX MD school with far lower stats. Of course I have my own non-quantifiable unique experiences. I might have been accepted to two in TX, but declined the second interview.

Congrats on your acceptance! I am not saying it's impossible to get in with lower than a 39, but I am saying that even someone with a score near a 39 is not an automatic shoe-in! An applicant definitely needs more than good numbers, something like the unique experiences you mentioned having yourself. I mentioned my own app as evidence of this - high stats and what I would consider average EC's, but no acceptance yet.

Congrats on the 39, thats very impressive. What was your GPA?

I'm also curious as to why did you wait four years?
