  1. Pre-Optometry
Can anyone give any insight about how the interview is like for both NECO and NOVA? Also, how long did it take you to hear back?

I read somewhere that NECO took about 3-4 days (Tuesday after Friday's interview)?! Is it really that quick?

If you're waitlisted/rejected by the NECO or NOVA, do they tell you within a week and why too??? Hopefully not, but I'm curious, but mostly I'M SO NERVOUS about this!!!!!:scared:

I had an interview at Nova earlier this month and it wasn't bad at all. Everyone there is super nice and even though I was really nervous I felt the interview went all right. They asked me pretty standard questions like "tell me about yourself, why nova?, how do you see yourself practicing optometry in the future?, what are your study habits like?, if you don't get accepted what will you do?". They told us that the academic committee was going to meet the following Thursday so she (Fran) would email us as soon as she knew the decision. So I got an email the week after telling me I'd been accepted! 🙂

I hope this helps!

Hey optomgal, thanks so much for the input! did you have to bring anything with you to the interview?

Nope! Just yourself haha I saw some people brought in a printout of their application but you really don't need anything.

lol thank you! im going soon. and can't wait to leave the cold and snowy northeast for the 70-80degree weather!!!

I agree with what optomgal said about NOVA's interview. NECO's interview pretty much asked the same questions. They also ask you about your hobbies/what you do in your free time, do you think you can handle the workload, and what you would do to succeed in a class if you were not doing well in it. But they basically just want to get to know you more. Everyone at NECO was really nice and responsive to my questions. 🙂 You will get interviewed by a faculty member first and then you will be interviewed by a 3rd year student. They both ask the same questions...but I guess the 3rd year student asked me more about my hobbies/extracurriculars, what do I plan to do after I become an OD, etc.

Hope this helps! And if you already went on your interviews, I'm sure you did fine because many of the schools' interviews are really just conversations and the interviewers + staff are really nice.

As for the reply from the schools...

For NOVA, I interviewed on a Wednesday and Fran (the Admissions Counselor) said the Admissions Committee was meeting on Thursday and on the same day I got an e-mail from Fran saying I was accepted. 🙂

For NECO, I interviewed on Friday and I received my acceptance letter in the mail the Tuesday after my interview. The date on the letter was the day of my interview too...so I guess they decided right after we finished our interview? They just don't tell you via e-mail though...so you have to wait for it to be e-mailed to you. XD

Anyway hope this helps! Good luck with your interviews! 🙂
