I've already been accepted at WesternU, but I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to tack on the extra expenses for a NECO interview while I'm on the east coast interviewing for ICO.

If I get into ICO I'd be there in a heartbeat, but if not... Right now it seems like NECO and WesternU are pretty controversial picks. So if given the choice, which one would you guys attend?

Thanks for your input!

I would choose NECO if left between the two. WesternU is a very new school, and is not accredited yet. Yes, what happened with the boards and NECO is unfortunate, but I would rather go to a school that is well-established. NECO has lost some respect, but I would be willing to bet that most optometrists and potential employers still have more respect for NECO than WesternU. I know someone will probably argue that you can get an equal education at all schools- which to be accredited you have to meet certain requirements. However, of the multiple optometrists I have shadowed, they don't see it that way. In a perfect world, they would be treated equally, but you need to take into consideration that it might matter in the job hunt where you went to school.
