Are there any jobs out there for MD's?
e.g. pharmaceutical jobs, medical assistant jobs, etc.
Can we start an extensive list here with specific links if possible?

Thanks.

That's not the way it works. A medical degree trains you for a single job-- that of physician. Many other fields are receptive to folks with professional degrees and skillsets, but they aren't specifically jobs "for MDs". You will find physicians in consulting, in pharmaceuticals, in biotech, in hospital administration, but in all those fields the job generally wasn't specifically a job for an MD, and they probably had to beat out folks with other experience and degrees. And nobody is going to ever hire an MD to be a medical assistant-- the employee would be overqualified, expected to be unhappy or bored, and too likely to leave in a few months.

I am an MD having trouble getting into residency, so I need a job in the meantime. Any particular leads out there? I am even finding it hard to get any job at all. Are there any particular places to apply for those with an MD /MBA background? I like consulting, pharmaceuticals or research fellowships, but I keep applying and it is fruitless. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out in that department.

Please disregard your MD in the job search.

As L2D notes, employers finding out that you possess such a degree will rightfully assume:

1) you will bail on the job as soon as a residency position becomes available
2) you are not working as a physician because *something* is seriously wrong

The MD does not qualify you for many jobs, so look to your other skills and apply for research fellowships, administrative positions, etc. ANYTHING which will pay the bills. Pharmaceutical sales are probably not the best option because anything corporate will require extensive training, which again, is not viable for someone who will not be staying long term.

Pick up a newspaper, academic journals, Craigslist, etc. If there is a university in your town, they probably have an HR department as do most hospitals.

Every time a thread like this pops up, I suggest looking into medical transcription. Most jobs out there are requesting 2-3 years of experience, but I would hope that if your typing skills are adequate, you could easily pass the "medical terminology" part given your medical training. I have no idea if this is feasible, but if so it's a "work at home" and "work at your own pace" type of job.

out of curiousity, does medical transcription look good on a CV for residency? or does a PD prefer something else like research or something "better"? and what if the research position was volunteer? which types of careers look better on a CV?

btw, i really appreciate all the input.

Research and publications and advanced degrees are really the only things that make a CV stronger for residency purposes. Medical transcription will not enhance a CV for residency -- it looks like what it is, a job to pay the bills which only tangentially uses your medical education. If you are looking for something to improve your chances at residency, getting a paid (or volunteer, if money is not the issue) research job with a chance at publishing is probably the only route that makes sense. A job that just pays the bills is not going to serve the same purpose.

both temorary and lifelong careers would be fine. I don't mind either at this point. I would hope that it is healthcare-related.
