I've been sudying for step 1 for a while and the NBMEs tell me I'm not ready to pass. I've decided to take a live Kaplan course, and I wanted advice from those of you who've done Kaplan -- What is the best way to get the most from the course? Should I try to get thru as much of the books in 10 days I have b4 it starts?

What about GOLJAN? Is it worth doing OR should I just rely on Kaplan? They say the current Kaplan path guy is pretty good as well.

Please respond, I really need all the advice I can get.

ps: multi-forum users, i'v eposted the same question on another forum, just looking for differing views.

Our Kaplan Pharm and Path guys were pretty good (esp pharm). Physio was wortheless, audio was pretty bad also, but the book itself is pretty good....in my opinion. Most people absolutely swear by Goljan....esp the people who do really well on step (which I take around the time that you start your course)...I think his audio lectures are excellent, but it still just doesn't seem to stick for me....I have to review everything SEVERAL times before anything gets committed to memory...and I don't have time for that. NBME only has me at borderline...which in turn has me at moderate "freak out" level. But I've found that going through the kaplan books and first aid have really improved my scores on the usmle world quesions - when I started, I was consistently in the 30s, now I'm at least average (mid 50's low 60's).

Thanks and good luck. Your UW is very encouraging... I think you'll be in good shape for the actual test, especially once you pass the 65 mark on UW.
