Hi everyone. I have some questions on how to best take advantage of my shadowing experience. I've been shadowing an OMM specialist for about 3 weeks now and have stayed for basically the whole work day each time. I feel like I am learning a lot just from observing and it is definitely way different than I imagined.

I am wondering what types of questions are the right questions to be asking. Should I be asking questions about her general life experience/career or more specific about questions relating to OMM like the techniques/anatomy. Also, should I be memorizing the techniques that she's using or is the point more so that I am getting a general feel overall for what she does with OMM. Also she has asked me some direct anatomy questions which I have a hard time answering since I haven't taken anatomy yet. Should I be learning anatomy just in order to understand better or is it still okay to wait for when I take the class?

Hi,
Learn the EMR - will be very valuable.
Learn how to complete a medical chart.
Whatever questions she asks, make a note of it and find the answer yourself. You could discuss it with her the following day.
Ask her advice on which schools to apply, MCAT etc.

It's okay if you didn't know the answer to her questions, and like med_res said, look them up after for your general knowledge. It's perfectly fine to ask questions about her career, experience, and also things about OMM. I too was fortunate enough to shadow someone specialized in OMM, and he often took the time to show me the techniques he utilized. Don't overthink the experience and just take it all in!
