Hi everyone, I have a month to take my usmle step 1, ironically ive already taken my step 2. I was wondering how i could maximize my score - im reaching for 220's and higher. Ive already started q-bank, first aid and goljans path, and as far as the clinical aspects of step 1, i feel pretty confident in answering the questions. I am wondering which subjects to concentrate my efforts in, subjects which might have been less emphasized in step 2 and therefore will create minor problems for me in this exam. What ive heard so far from colleagues has been to focus on molecular areas, like genetics and cell biology. And even physio and behavioral, because both are almost non-existant on step 2.

Take care and thank you for your help!

I agree with genetics, cell biology, physio and behavioral. Also, don't forget basic microbiology (you probably have a good handle on clinical microbio) and principles of pharm!

:luck:

Hey, how much time do you have?

Listen to what I'm telling you... whatever subject that you want to study further, I would HIGHLY recommend using the KAPLAN notes...

When I first starting studying I was using BRS for path and physio... but I didn't have any material for the other socalled lower yield subjects such as Behavior, Biochem, Anatomy, Neuro... and it was relatively close to my test time, about 2 weeks...

So I picked up my roommates KAPLAN material that he used a couple of years before and they are totally on point... they cover the subject perfectly for the most part (anatomy is SO SO), especially great for biochemistry....

Anyway, my point is that I thought I was weak in these sections and was very worried, BUT, it took me a very short amount of time to read through KAPLAN and learn the material well enough to handle the material on STEP I....

Of course, there were questions that I had no idea about, but I think I would have been able to answer some of those question had I started using KAPLAN material earlier......

FURTHERMORE, to be honest, i don't think you can neglect any subject because you may get a tested heavy in one subject and not the other, or a well rounded test.... You don't want to gamble! And, by studying even the low yield subject, you get a much stronger grasp of all the subjects since they are all integrated....

Thanks for your help socuteMD and treasurefull...I am taking it august 22nd and that is the last day that I can take it, so about a month and a week left. I can get Kaplan notes from a friend - so it would take a week or two max to get through those sections? Even if Im doing goljan path and q-bank concurrently?
