Hi everyone,

This is a great site for information on the field of PT so thank you all for contributing to it.

Here is my situation: I finished my bachelors in kinesiology on Spring 09. My GPA was not very good at the time so I went back to raise it. After racking $30,000 in debt, I got it up to nearly a 3.2 (nothing less than an A since summer of 2010). My prereq's (retook physics I, technical writing and chem I and got all A's now) is 3.5-3.7 right now. I have experience observing at a PT outpatient facility (about 100) and working as a tech (about 100 as well but I was let go) expect I don't believe that I can get a LofR from either one (didn't know I had clinical depression at the time and wasn't able to do anything about it). Interned as a cardiac rehab tech (250 hours) and volunteered for the texas ramp project (a program to help build ramps at homes for handicapped individuals) I haven't taken the GRE yet and I'm studying for it at the moment.

Interview wise, its on and off. As I mentioned, I have clinical depression (which contributed to my low GPA to start with) but I'm managing it very well now. I feel this is used against me wherever I go so I keep it to myself and never mention it. It affects my interview skills so it puts me in a bit of a disadvantage sometimes. 3/4's of the time I'm able to articulate my thoughts effectively, other day's I just can't. Interview part is critical so I hope that when I get an opportunity (PT school, PT tech/aide job) that I have a good day.

I really want to become a physical therapist and I know I have obstacles to overcome. I do believe its possible and truly am willing to do what it takes to get in.

Any advice (grades, experience, what to do, etc) would really help. 🙂

Focus on studying for the GRE, get hours to observe a fresh PT and make an effort to make a good impression to get a LOR. Get a LOR from a professor and probably one more from a previous employer that liked you.

You seem to be a passionate and good person so I hope you get in to PT school if this is the case.
