Hi all! I’m reevaluating my life and realizing I am way behind on being premed. I’m mid junior year and have a summer research experience and VP of a health club. My grades are a strong upward trend with 3.9-4.0 the last 3 semesters and I’ve TA’d for a class.
I have no clinical hours, no shadowing, I don’t know if I would get strong LOR’s. I have good grades and get along and chat with professors, but not sure if that translates to strong LORs.
Here are my questions…

1. How do I get all this done before I graduate. I’m likely taking a 2 year gap year to finish after I graduate. Is it okay to wait til then?

2. I’m considering transferring to a less rigorous school that’s closer to home. I decided to be premed junior year and will not be able to finish all my prerequisites by senior year. Does it make more sense to be closer to home that way I can do all my volunteering and clinical work at the same location for senior year and 2 years after graduating? But that would mean I’m transferring senior year to a less rigorous ( but waaaay cheaper) school.

I appreciate any advice?

I don't think that you're going t be able to in just 1.5 years.

That's fine, and very common.

So? Just do well.
You get a good LOR by going to office hours, and sitting in front of the class so your profs get to know you better.

Do you think a less rigorous school would impact my ability to do well on the MCAT?

Thank you so very much for your advice. It’s really invaluable. It seems like this process is complicated, or I’m making it complicated in my head. But I do have a follow up question. What about a committee letter? Would it be possible to get a good one if I do well at a new school where I’ve transferred? Similarly what about my previous school? Would they provide a good commute letter if I’ve transferred out of their program?

Contact your new school's pre-health advisors but odds are likely good
