I am on the nymc waitlist, and sadly, it is the only school I can possibly get into this year.

does anyone have any advice that will improve my chances of getting in?

so far i have sent them...

-3 additional letters of rec since my interview
-a letter of interest after my interview
-a letter of interest after the waitlist letter
-all the grades i received since my aamcas
-and i am plannin on sending them a letter of intent very soon.

thanks

I think the letter of intent may be the last thing to do, I'm not sure about how nymc works, but I know some schools may offer you a phone confrence or personal meeting with the dean also, so you can express your interest that way. I would given them a call and ask if they would allow you to speak with the dean to discuss your chances of getting off the waitlist. Showing persistent interest is never a bad thing, as long as you're not annoying about it (i.e. calling them every single day)

Have you been doing anything else that you can talk about? Research, activities, etc.? Letters of interest are terrific and all, but if you have something new to tell them along with being interested, that would help.

Sounds good so far. You might want to update them on any volunteering or shadowing you've done recently, if you've done any that is.

Are you on any other waitlists? I've heard that it may be a little disingenuous to write a letter of intent if this is your only waitlist/acceptance. Letter of intents work best when you can honestly say that you will drop other waitlists/acceptances for a spot at that school.

Keep writing/calling NYMC. They probably keep taking people off the waitlist as needed right up until the start of class. Good luck!

If it makes you feel any better --- I'm sure there will be movement. I just got off the waiting list for my #1 choice, and I am holding a spot at NYMC. I will be withdrawing shortly... so there will be movement. Be persistent, show lots of interest, and I suggest contacting the dean of admissions to discuss your chances/application if possible.

hey, ill chime in, involved a bit with admissions, and when talking to dean chiarieri about advice to give to my buddy to get off WL (he eventually got off), she said the mosti mportant thing is to keep up continuous interest. Even if it means small letters saying you're still interested its very important. The logic she gave me behind this is that, she says in theory, if the medical school had enough seats, they would offer everyoen they interview a spot. But as we know, theres not enough spots, so what she says is she wants the kids who she knows are happy to be there, so thats where the letters come in. That being said, we have a new dean of admissions coming in on july 10 (which is what i was told), who will be taking over the WL at the time. So I still feel that keeping in touch is important. Best of luck to all of you on waitlist.

I just withdrew my acceptance -- so good luck, to all those waiting to come off the waiting list.
