Hi guys,
I had my eyes set on medical school for a while now but I just do not want to put in another 6-9 years post grad before I could get started living my life. that being said, I have diverted my attention to dental school.
I just finished my fourth year but would need a fifth year to finish my degree - I was taking pre requisite courses that did not fulfill degree requirements and I was taking 24 credits a year as I have a construction company which I run and that eats up a lot of time.
I am thinking of taking my fifth year as a gap year to build my resume by getting some clinical volunteer experience, research, and preparing for the DAT. I would then technically be applying in my sixth year, but only fifth year of study. Would the gap year be a good idea? Or would it be detrimental in the interview/application process? I currently have a GPA of 8/9 (York Scale), which is equal to a 3.8. I am in the Kinesiology and Health sciences program. Also, I am open to attending a Dental School in the USA or Canada.
