I'm a non-traditional pre-med seriously considering the MD-PhD route, but I have some questions; I hope that someone could help me with since the search engine is down for the upgrade. Of course, all of this is mostly what ifs but for some reason it is just bugging me. First, suppose you are accepted in a MSPT program but when the match comes your residency and your research interest don't go well together could this happen and what would one do since it is alot of time and hardwork in achieving this degree, Second,If accepted by one but not the other, I know you could delay another year but are these applications tied together or are they seperate?Finally, choosing a program? I have a strong interest in microbiology, immunology and cell, research into tropical diseases, vaccine developement is fascinating to me whereas my clinical interest assuming I do make it ;is in specialties such as oncology, neurology,infectious diseases, familypractice/ER, trauma surgery and vascular surgery. Therein my delimma lies a possible conflict. Any suggestions, advice would be greatly appreciated.
