Hey guys,

So this semester was horrible, I think I am about to cry. I took physics, ochem, exercise physio, and sports psyc(my only easy class). and I thought I could handle it all with 25hrs of work/week!! Yeah crazy now that I think of it.

I did not pass exercise physio and got a D!! I am stressing out and do not know whether it is even possible to apply to PT school anymore. I am re-taking this class because it is part of my major, but also some PT schools have it as a pre-req. I have done a re-take on one class already and now with this one it will be 2 classes I have retaking in total from my pre-req's.

Can anyone tell me if this affects my chances of getting accepted..period. Please. or has anyone had a situation like this..but still accepted to PT school. Thanks guys I really need some motivation right now.

Without knowing any of your other stats it hard to tell. However, if you have a decent overall and pre req GPA without that D in exphys and whatever the other class is that you're retaking you may still have a shot. Most schools don't require exphys as a prerequisite. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. If you haven't yet taken the GRE, it's important that you do well now. Exphys could definitely be considered a PT related class, and if schools take notice that you've performed poorly they will look for you to make that up in other areas. There's also a section on PTCAS where you can explain any mishaps in your grades.

Hey Joe

I am at about a 3.0 GPA
PHYSICS I-B
PHYSICS II-Pending i am taking this fall
CHEM I-C (I had an F because of family issues and had to drop after the drop date and retook it)
CHEM II-Pending i am taking this fall
STATS-B+
PSYC-C
SOC-B
BIO I- B-
BIO II-Pending i am taking this fall

Experience: 2000+ hours working as a physical therapy aide in outpatient & with pediatrics, acute and rehab settings

GRE- i plan on taking in the summer and that is all i am dedicating my summer to!! so hopefully that will help

a state school I wanted to apply to requiered exercise physio so that is why I am stressed out..but I could always apply to those that do not look at that class

I have to say your prereq GPA is pretty weak. You still havent taken Anatomy/Physiology/Physic ll/Chem ll. Make sure you do extremely well in those courses. Also retake those C's in your prereqs. 2000 hours in outpatient is a lot but it doesnt show diversity. Programs love to see applicants with experiences on top of experience. Make sure you go volunteer in inpatient (Hospital, SNF, etc).

Dont discourage yourself cause you got a D. I applied to schools with plenty of D's and F's. I retook all of the classes except a Geography course and I got accepted to four schools. Make sure you do your best and able to explain your grades if asked. Good Luck!

Btw. Nicolej5 - Every time I see the letter "D" I am reminded of you. Then I am reminded of how immature i am cause i giggle to it. Ugh...

You really need to raise your gpa to be honest. These days it needs to be >3.5 to have a solid chance. If you had time and money I'd say retake those c's to boost but if you're applying this cycle you obviously don't have time. Of course there are other things besides gpa like gre scores and observations. As long as you have varied hours you're fine in that department. Both your verbal and quant sections need to be 150 or better. Writing needs to be 4 or better. When you retake that exphys class you better get an A. Knock out your personal statement and LOR's and I don't see why you can't get an acceptance or two. Your only crux would be your gpa.

I applied to schools with plenty of D's

Hey guys thanks for the input. Sorry I forgot to mention that ...
Anatomy- B
Human Physiology-A

I wanted to apply this coming cycle and my plan was that if I got accepted to NOT re-take some pre-req's. Plan has now changed...I am definitely re-taking Psychology at my community college and I plan to work my butt off in Physics II and Chem II... If I could I would re-take chem I but I already took it twice and I do not want that to kill my chances. If I do get A's on those remaining courses GPA would be around 3.2-3.4

Just do what you gotta do to get that gpa up. Don't neglect other parts of your application though! Good luck.

Blondes have more fun than brunettes. It is true. Scientifically proven.
