Hello everyone,

I have a ton of questions, and would like to see if some have some answers. I graduated high school in the year 2010. I attended a community college where I did very poorly due to family problems and some substance abuse(nothing like narcotics). I had a GPA of 2.0. I applied to a university and somehow got accepted. Now I have a GPA of 2.3. Failed one class and two Cs in another. I've had trouble getting my life straight to go to med school till now. I really want to go to and MD school. It's my passion. I'm currently double enrolled, Im getting my paramedic license while I continue my education at the university and so far Ive been getting As in everything. I am going to retake the F I received in Biology and have no doubt that I'll get an A. Im practically turning my life around. There's a huge upward trend in my grades. I plan on getting a very good MCAT score as well. Im doing all the prep I can for it. I figured doing paramedic school along with a bachelors might make me seem like a more serious candidate. Is there any advice? Did I ruin my chances of ever going to a medical school?

Definitely retake the F in bio and you need to take upper level bio/chem classes and do well to prove you can do well and can handle it. I don't think you ruined your chances but you will have to work very hard! If you want it you can achieve it but you really have to be serious and do well!! Also, there's nothing wrong with DO when the time does come for you to apply you should apply to DO schools too. You really need to get your gpa up to like a 3.5 at least if possible by the time you graduate. You need to do really well on your mcat like 510+. Graduate programs can help in showing you are ready for the rigor of med school classes so I would also consider some kind of graduate program too.
