So currently I'm a 5th year senior. Majoring in Biology and a Minor in Physics.
The classes I have left to take and graduate are as follows:
Anatomy
Vert Physiology
Organic 1,2,3
Class toward my Physics minor
and TWO upper Level sciences class (i.e. Cancer Biology or Cell Neuro)

= 8 classes in total.

Sadly I'm at a 2.6, (after I retake Anatomy I should jump to a 2.7). I volunteer, work for a doctors practice, in a Fraternity etc. Ideally I want my GPA at a 3.0. I'm doing well in all my physics classes (hence the minor). I get C's here and there for the Bio portion. I plan to excel in organic!

I'm from Illinois and the only school i want to attend it none other than ICO 🙂

When do you plan on applying, taking the OAT, etc?

sidenote: judging by your sn I take it you're an Alpha?...just using context clues 🙂

I suggest taking some graduate level courses (or post bac) and trying getting some A's in them, to show that you can handle what optometry school education has to offer.

Don't get any more C's, they butcher your GPA, so try to no life study and pull all A's. Show them that you can handle and are prepared for the future and make up for your past.

ideally I want to enroll in the fall of 2012. But I'm not sure how much Organic I need before I take the OAT. One quarter or two quarters of organic....

and yes your contacts clues are very resourceful 🙂

Take both semesters of Organic Chemistry, the most important reaction of OC is learned in the 2nd semester.

Yes, I believe both semesters/quarters of organic will prepare you enough for the OAT. I only had one (summer) semester and did fine on that section of the OAT, however I "taught myself" the reactions typically taught in second semester of organic. Either way is doable, just depends on how you learn and how much time you can dedicate to the subject.

Looks like i'll be taking the OAT after I take my 2nd quarter of OC. Chemistry is still fresh in my head (even though I need to refresh on a buffer/titration problem).
