  1. Dental Student
I hope everything is going well. I just wanted to take some advice and find out my chances in getting into dental school this cycle. I go to Rutgers and have a 3.7 cumulative and a 3.6 science gpa (I got a W in Orgo 1 my first time and a C the second time, due to personal and family issues and am taking Orgo 2 after applying this cycle; I'm putting that down as inconsistent grade on the application). I'm also taking my DAT July 3rd and having my score sent automatically. I have shadowed a general dentist for quite some time now, will be doing the Gateway to Dentistry program at UMDNJ, work at a hospital, research at UMDNJ, have taken on many leadership roles, and volunteer in an organization. I'm looking to apply to 10 schools: UMDNJ, NYU, Columbia, Boston, Tufts, Maryland, UConn, Temple, Howard, West Virginia. What score on the DAT would get me into at least one of these schools? I'm obviously going to try my best. If there's any other schools near the East Coast you guys would recommend applying to please let me know and feel free to shoot me any general advice. Thanks again!

PS: I was born in Egypt and check off African American. Just for reference.

Assuming you maintain your GPA, a 20AA should get you into one of those schools.

PS. Egyptians aren't considered African American but nice try http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=818687&highlight=egypt+urm

I check off African American because I'm on an African American scholarship and classified myself as that on my US Citizenship. I'm sure it's a question of personal description, no?
And what would you say would be the lowest score I could get and get into one of those schools?

Marhabah

Egyptians are considered African Americans so don't listen to anyone who says otherwise.
The lowest score you could get and still get in would be a 19, but some of those schools you listed really want high DAT scores like NYU, Columbia, Tufts. I would take Howard off your list because they really want to fill their class with blacks.
Therefore I would really aim for a 20/20 and you should be good to go.

Egyptians are not considered URMs for dental school or even medical school. But its the OPs choice but don't be shocked if schools reject you subsequently.

North Africa = Caucasian

Thank you for the clarification. Davaid, I don't understand why you seem to be so upset. I'm sorry if this post offends you in any way, but I am checking off the ethnicity that I always have. I'm sure schools cannot reject my application simply because of an ethnicity box without taking a look at my application or at least granting me an interview. Unless you know otherwise or have heard stories from other students?
As for the DAT score, is there any specific score I need to get on each section? Or as long as my AA is 19 or 20, it doesnt matter? I'd appreciate some insight. Thanks again

No it does not matter, as long as there is one that doesn't stick out (like 17 on Bio).

Like I said again Egyptian = non-URM, you should call AADSAS and speak with them. If they approve of this then I would do it, if they don't then you're basically risking rejections. Just because you did that in the past doesn't mean its correct. That's all im saying. A 17 or above is a cutoff for a lot of schools, but you cant predict your score so just study hard and aim for a 25.
