hello guys

im thinking about changing my major to either biology or chemsitry


i dont know what most of students who want to go to Dental graduate school take for their major,

but which will be the best for me?

bio or chem?

i want to maintain high GPA as possible..

My pre-dental advisor is pretty adamant about picking a major that you will do the best in, but also one that you enjoy. Is there a specific reason you want to change your major?
You can apply to dental school as any major, so changing majors is not a necessity.

If you have assessed the situation & you still feel like you want to change, then I'd pick the major you'd do the best in and enjoy the most, whichever that may be. You doing well will be dependent on a variety of factors, so no one on this forum
can really tell you what the "best" major for you would be. You have to figure that out for yourself.

Personally, I would major in biology. You are then required to take all of the high level bio classes that look good on your application for DS. And avoiding PCHEM and CALC 2 is always a plus....

I was an English major. I said "...not English" in reply to asking for advise (sic.) I couldn't resist.

Similar to a time in undergrad when a kid said, "We all made it into X University, I am sure we can all write real good." 🙂

Either major is fine as far as the application process goes, but IMO you'll be better off with a bio major concentrating in a lot of upper level courses (it'll help you immensely during your first two years).

Really it doesn't matter very much. I will say this, every interview I went to it seemed like almost everyone was a biology major. I chose to major in exercise science which was something different. I ended up taking a lot of the same courses as the bio majors as electives and got to study something that I really enjoyed. I really liked my major because it was science based so I still feel prepared for the basic sciences in dental school and it was a blast taking classes in biomechanics and exercise physiology.
