Hello,

Requesting some help on selecting courses for retake during summer. My grades are as listed below.

Med School Pre Req Grades:
====================
CHEM I : AP Credit Transfer appearing as 'T' : CHEM II : A - with lab
PHYS I : B - with lab ; PHYS II: Yet to take
Orgo I : C ; Orgo II : B ; Synth Lab : A
Anatomy and Physiology 1: B (Bio Requirement) - No lab
Anatomy and Physiology 2 : B (Bio Requirement) - no lab
Psychology : A
Biochemistry : In Progress
Upper level Bio Course : In Progress

sGPA with courses listed above: 3.24

I know that Math is not counted in sGPA but here are my Math related grades
Calc I : AP Credit Transfer appearing as 'T' ; Calc II : B
Statistics : B

I am planning to retake Orgo I this summer and possibly Physics 2.

My question is - should I also take Chem 1 as it is not counted my GPA above?

Which other science courses would you recommend that I should take to boost my sGPA. Should I take a biology course with lab?

Also what about the engineering courses I have taken (I am pursuing engineering) - will it be counted towards DO GPA?

Thanks in Advance.

Have you consulted the AACOMAS CIB? From my recollection, math courses are included into your science GPA (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math).

I don't suggest taking a biology lab course to boost your GPA. Just take something you're confident you'll do well in.

All courses are accounted for in the GPA for the DO applicant cycle.

Thanks for the input

As per Page 21 of this pdf - Math is not counted in sGPA for 2015. I would imagine it will be same for cycle opening in June 2015;

Science GPAs include Biology/Zoology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Other Science, and Physics. Non-science GPAs include Behavioral Science, English, Math, and Other Non-science

It seems I also have to take Psychology out from my sGPA as well...

As per the pdf, engineering courses falls under "Other Science" - so I have to add that in it...

I believe that is only for AMCAS and MD schools. AACOMAS has considered math a non-science for as long as I can remember, especially when I began looking into DO programs (about 3 years ago).

The link dajshah provided is from AACOM. I believe dajshah is correct in stating that math is not included in the sGPA.
