i have to apply for residency this year and dont know what to do.

- love academics in terms of educational reward and advancment...as a whole but highly dislike many nerdy, "play by the rules" type personalities
- want to be in private practice
- not willing to dedicate my life to surgery (even though i loved it) as i value family time more than any career
- considering cards, but not sure i want to be a slave for the next 6 years of my life, and this is the biggest issue really.... im already tired of the people i work with. (some people may say its nothing considering its a 30 years long career.... however, its 3 years of my late 20s-early 30s, not of my 50s). plus extra 3 years of lost income, plus accumulating student loans.
- have the scores for any speciality
- do not really want to work in a hospital setting, rather have more control over what i can, cannot , should or shouldnt do .
- dont wanna do shift work (EM)
- really considering FM as it seems the best route for highly business oriented people and it is still medicine.

any input of what specialities should i consider given my goals/personality traits?

any input is appreciated!
thanks

Let's see...good scores, lazy, only in it for the money...there's a name for doctors like that...Dermatologists. If you really have the scores (and can stomach the dullness of the job), go for it.

Or consider Ophtho...you can be a Lasik jockey 30 hours a week and do pretty well for yourself.

im not lazy, i work hard, and willing to work very hard and cant do a boring job. however family does come first. i was born in france, so it may be a cultural thing more than anything.

Not much correlation between the title and the content of post.

It seems like you want a specialty were you make tons of money and don't have to put in long hours or deal with any sort of hassle (administration, inconvenient schedule, or other people). And you want to do it while spending the absolute minimum time training possible. If you truly have the scores (and grades and documented research interest) then go into derm. Otherwise, FM with a heavy cosmetic focus may be reasonable if you can market yourself well and are willing to live in a place that doesn't already have heavy penetration into the market. Otherwise, you're going to have to sacrifice multiple items on your list and do what most people do, compromise.
