When is prevotella first detectable in the oral cavity?
-at birth
-adolescent
-when caries are present
-long after caries are gone
-after perio disease
-during perio disease

ans. is adolescent becoz prevotella comes under the normal oral flora of mouth(in gingival pockets).....and so its detectable first in the dentulous mouth

"prevotella first detectable in the oral cavity" - ans shud be at birth
correct me if i m rong.......

is this the ans in the key
but i still think becoz it is an anaerobic org , so it shd be inside the gingival pockets d/t low oxygen tension there and is responsible for the periodontal ds too
pls do confirm the right ans. if u have the key

Previously, anaerobes were considered to be absent from the mouth of infants, as it was assumed that they were dependent on the oxygen-depleted environment of the gingival crevice, i.e. the presence of teeth. Additionally, anaerobes were regarded as late

colonizers, not appearing until puberty (Bailit [FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman]et al. .1964, Kelstrup 1966). Anaerobic bacteria are, however, frequently isolated from the oral cavity of edentulous infants (Könönen [FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman]et al. .1992, Könönen 1999, Könönen [FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman]et al. .1999c). The recent concept is that the strictly anaerobic bacteria coexist through coaggregation with oxygen-consuming bacteria, forming a biofilm, where various physical and chemical gradients, such as pH, oxygen concentration, and electric potential exists, thus offering a suitable environment for anaerobic bacteria (Kolenbrander 2000). The low redox potential within the papillary surface of the dorsum of the tongue might supply the necessary reservoir for the obligatory anaerobic bacteria in edentulous infants.
