Quick, stupid question. Not in medical school yet, but upon completion, must you complete a year long internship then the specific number of years of the residency of choice and then fellowship if one so chooses. Thanks guys.
 
It depends on the specialty. Some don't really start until the 2nd-year after you graduate and require an internship year (e.g., radiology, anesthesiology, orthopedic surgery, urology, etc), while others don't (e.g., internal medicine, psychiatry, family medicine, etc.).

Ok, for example take anesthesiology, a 4 year residency; is that including a general internship year or 1 year plus 4 additional? I guess thats really what I'm asking. Thanks again.
