If you want to practice medicine without the USMLE, your chances are zippo. Ain't gonna happen without a license.

If you want to do research or teach......start searching for jobs, and get a visa.

I'm sorry, I'm confused...you have a doctorate in biochemistry, or medicine as well? If you're looking to practice here in the US, you definitely need to get licensed (as well as obtain a state license)...that requires the USMLE.

As long as you are not looking to practice medicine your background sounds good enough to get a job at most universities teaching or doing research. I have met several foreign physicians that are doing research. You might also consider some of the pharmaceutical companies that look for people with a strong biochemical background for research. Good luck.

Someone explained this to me recently, but I'm not real sure how it goes. Something like this....

The MBBS is the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. It is the degree in Medicine (i.e. MD in the US).

The MD awarded at these schools is more of a research degree (as I understand it). Maybe someone (ie--The OP) can enlighten us further.....

I suppose the PhD is similar to a US PhD....maybe I'm wrong....it's happened one other time....

thanks a bunch for reply,
I am certainly intrested in teaching or research. I just dont know what to do to get such research position. I applied online in so many companies but no one is responding. So i am wondering is there any better way to find out such position and apply. any suggestion r wellcome.
thanks, again.

you may want to consider contacting schools directly and trying to apply with the dept head of e.g biochem or whatever your interests are in. You can also consider looking into NIH. I am sure there's ton of oppurtunity there; however, I am unsure of how competetive they are, being a foreign graduate. You can go to us news and world report to find the names, locations, and rankings of big time research schools and contact them directly to see if they have anything available for you. Hope this helps--good luck!
